TEN PIN BOWLING

This information is intended for NEW MEMBERS to give them an insight as to what we are about and our beginnings. Ten Pin Bowling began roughly twenty six years ago thanks to a small group who had already founded the O50 club.

Bernard Dungworth was one of the original founders and through his enthusiasm Ten Pin Bowling has become a very popular activity within our Club.

In the past competitions against other clubs were organised by Bernard including The National Bowling Event where clubs across the country came to Scarborough to participate in the two day event. These events were regular over many years, and many friends were made.

The Covid Pandemic arrived, and we could not play for almost two years, the result being the loss of members, however we started playing again in the Spring of 2022. Our membership was low, but we now have a good number of bowlers and this number is growing as new members join the club and come bowling.

Our aim is to encourage people to participate and enjoy the sport of Ten Pin Bowling in doing so improve their game, hopefully achieving higher scores.

Like all other sports there has to be some basic rules. We encourage our members to follow the Ten Pin Bowling Etiquette Rules. These are available for all to read on the bowling lanes.

We begin our sessions at 10:30 am prompt every Monday morning. All 050 members play one game and it’s this game we record and total your scores. If you wish you may play a second game. This is at your own discretion but the scores are not recorded. The club holds two Trophy Award Presentations each year, one in June for half year results, the second in November for yearly grand totals. Awards are presented for first and second in various categories and other awards as decided by the organiser.

We are hoping to organise BOWLING FUN DAYS OUT, as we had last year. The cost of these trips was very reasonable thanks to a subsidy from club funds.

We hope to create a friendly atmosphere where you can play a game, or two amongst friends.

We ask you all to mix with new members to get to know each other. Which is our main aim!
